Our Teaching Goal

We are deeply committed to a high standard and excellent quality of guzheng music education, as well as highly professional environment. We strive to make our guzheng education the best quality and most powerful music education base possible.

We sincerely believe that our teaching as well as students dedication and parental support will form an effective team, resulting in a challenging yet rewarding experience.

Teaching Materials and Curriculum

In recent years, we have shown the form of continuous reform and innovation, and that formal education is also innovative. Through the past years of teaching, we designed our own set of new programs, thus, the standard music education model was created. This valuable program, a planned step by step system, evaluates a student's progress and skills in performance. To cultivate the interests of students while playing guzheng, we also focus on professional guzheng skills training. We also have our own learning materials/resources for adults and children. These materials are personally written by Miss Lei Gu.

Our Academy curriculum includes, ear training, sight reading, various techniques, music theory and performance practices. Lessons are tailored to that of the student's individual learning pace and interests.

Student Range

Our students range from 5 years of age to senior citizens, being of beginners to high level performers. Ms. Lei Gu's students often travel from long distances (even out of town) and come from several different areas to study with and experience Lei Gu's teaching style. We care to teach what you want to learn. Hence, music is rewarding for students of all ages and levels--- learning for your own enjoyment, or studying seriously.

Lessons, Ensembles and Performances

Lessons are customized to individuals in private lessons, as well as small group lessons. Private lessons are available for all levels. In addition, we also provide a special program for early music education as young as five years old. This program gives even the youngest of children an opportunity to touch upon the basic skills of guzheng music, help cultivate their interest in music and develop skills in movement, instrumental music, and group activities.

Group lessons are only provided for the beginner level. We offer group lessons twice a year, during fall and spring semester. Classes are in groups of 3-4 people, closely matched in age.

Adult student ensembles and multiple youth group ensembles will given to students who perform throughout the community.

Guzheng lessons are an investment in more than just simply learning to play the instrument. Other benefits of learning this instrument are learning important life skills. The development of guzheng skills will enhance the student's aesthetic values and perceptions as well as provide a basis for lifelong musical enjoyment.

 

Guzheng Lessons

	Students at all ages and levels are welcome.
	Languages can be taught in languages as following: English, Mandarin or Cantonese.
	Classes are available in Maryland, Northern Virginia and Howard County.
	Private Class length: 45 or 60 minutes.
	Group class length: 60 or 90 minutes.
	Ensemble class length: 90 minutes.

 

Location

Washington Dunhuang Guzheng Academy is based in Rockville, Maryland but she also travels to give guzheng lessons within the Virginia and Columbia area as well as the surrounding suburbs and everywhere in between!

教材和课程

近年来，我们除了从演出形式上不断创新，而且，教育形式上也在不断改革。通过这几年的教学，我们拥有了自己的一套有计划、有步骤新的教学系统。教学材料由浅入深，好听易学。我们有自己的成人和儿童古筝学习教材，这两本教材都亲自由顾磊老师编写。

在培养学生对古筝兴趣的同时，我们也非常注重专业技巧上的训练。我们学校的课程包括，音乐听觉能力、识谱能力、演唱或演奏能力，培养学生的音准感、节奏感、和各种音乐表现手法。教学速度根据每个学生的个人学习能力而定。

学生年龄

长期以来，不论是孩子还是年长者，一直以演奏古筝，作为修身怡情、培养高洁气质的主要方式。我们的学员年龄从5岁到60多岁，从初学者到高水准的学生。学生们来自于各个不同的阶层，部分学生甚至从外州远道而来，为的是希望能学到更专业的古筝技巧。

课程，合奏训练及表演

成人团体的训练及青少年团体训练都是以小团体课程为主。主要是针对社区某些形式的表演。此外，我们还提供了一个幼儿年龄的早期音乐教育的特别项目。这个项目是给孩子一个接触古筝音乐的一个入门训练，培养他们对古筝音乐的兴趣和手指训练的技能。

团体课只提供给初学者。团体课程每年有春季和秋季两次课程。3-4人以及年龄相仿的为一组。

华盛顿敦煌筝乐坊总部设在马里兰州的Rockville，但为给爱好古筝的学生提供方 便，我们也为住在Virginia 和 Columbia 的学生提供就近授课地址。
